For this private house on top of a mountain in the desert outside of Tucson, Charlap Hyman and Herrero placed four structures on a single expansive deck plane, all covered by an encompassing Corten roof. Highly sustainable and built with walls of rammed-earth blocks, the structure bleeds into the landscape. A central courtyard that is planted with native vegetation, fed by cisterns for rain collection on the property, is the hidden heart of the compound, which unfurls as one moves throughout passages that transition from inside to outside discreetly.
