In partnership with the City of Missoula, MonTEC, the University of Montana, Montana World Trade Center, and Missoula College, the Missoula Innovation District development will bring new, state of the art research, educational, retail, and housing opportunities to the Montana Innovation Corridor Gateway of Missoula, MT. By leveraging an under-utilized property that is uniquely positioned to provide multi-modal transit connections between the UM campus, downtown business and cultural nodes, and East Missoula, the Missoula Innovation District will catalyze economic growth as a live/work hub for business development, technological innovation, and hands-on educational collaboration.
Learning from Missoula's historic timber and mining industries to realize socially and ecologically sustainable urban development, the buildings are framed with mass timber which emanates from a masonry circulatory core - connecting the mix of programs on the upper floors of each building with parking, retail, and dining establishments at street level. Sited to create an estuary protected from the strong easterly winds, the buildings envelop a public park space with direct connections to Jacob's Island and the UM Campus across the Clark Fork. The structures stretch outward to the west and south, maximizing natural light penetration and providing both indoor and outdoor spaces with panoramic visual connections over the river to the city of Missoula beyond.
