Charlap Hyman & Herrero designed the entertainment salons for L'Appartamento by Artemest at Milan Design Week. The rooms draw inspiration from the storied interiors of Palermo’s Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi as seen in Luchino Visconti’s Il Gattopardo, transmuting the palace’s cinematic grandeur into a space that feels both opulent and warm - a sense of aristocratic splendor softened by time. Layered surfaces suggest generations of use, and pieces are arranged with a studied looseness. Seating clusters overlap conversationally, tables appear slightly off-axis, and circulation paths feel intuitive rather than ceremonial. This informality suggests an evolution of use in the space, reflecting how a grand room adapts to changing rituals and habits over time. Upholstery is imagined in deep, resonant hues reminiscent of the film’s ballroom scenes, where color and shadow intermingle under candlelight. Lighting is intentionally atmospheric, favoring warm, low illumination that creates depth and a sense of ritual.
