Perched high above Joshua Tree's Gamma Gulch, Charlap Hyman & Herrero designed this folly to look out over the landscape. The bedroom and bath are situated on the top level, with vantage points from four round portals centered on each wall, like lenses. Fluid living spaces on the shaded lower level are, by contrast, compacted by vaulted ceilings reminiscent of a cave. A discrete outdoor staircase slices through the concrete to connect the two floors.
