Charlap Hyman & Herrero designed Friedman Benda’s exhibition, Blow Up, curated by Felix Burrichter, founder and editor of PIN-UP Magazine. The theme of Burrichter’s exhibition, the miniaturized world of a dollhouse, served as a jumping-off point for the principals to transform the gallery space itself into a dollhouse “blown up” to scale, replete with furnishings and architectural elements crafted from magnified sketches by Adam Charlap Hyman and a progression of rooms reflecting a residential layout. CHH’s “re-rescaled” scene provided a dynamic context for works of contemporary art and design by Blow Up’s other contributors, including over a dozen specially commissioned for the show, which themselves explore the aesthetics of scale, along with themes of societal norms, kitsch, and domesticity.
