This simple bedroom box sits like a large piece of furniture inside of a concrete loft in downtown Los Angeles. Its function is two-fold: to provide acoustic and visual privacy from the main loft space, and to accommodate the essential necessities of a bedroom. A thickened threshold modulates sound, light, and air with operable doors and windows, and contains closets and built-in furniture. The box is decorated with aluminum, fabric, and painted panels to distinguish them from the wood box substrate. A two foot wide cavity leading to a balcony is sheathed in mirror polished metal to reflected light coming in from the window.
